How good is utk really?

I'm a tn resident going here for free, but so far I don't think I like it. What am I giving up by going to MTSU, and am I gaining anything by going to Georgia Tech? (currently working to transfer into a digital media production degree)

I'm a TN Resident too. I've been accepted to UTK and, although it definately is far from the top of my list, if I went i'd have a full ride. What do you not like about it?

From what I've heard, MTSU is a big commuter school and if your looking for a college-y campus on the weekends your not going to get it. But, I know they have a really good music business/ media programs (which i'm guessing digital media production could fall into.) Georgia Tech prolly has better research opporunities, better faculty, and more "prestige" (if that really matters) when your trying to get a job after college.

I live across town from UTK anyway and the weekend college scene isn't that important to me. Prestige is to an extent, but what I'm thinking of isn't name dropping but more of job placement and grad school acceptance. I would like to get into a top B.school.

So far there's very little I hate about ut, although I do often wonder were the money is going. (The math building is almost falling apart and doesn't have heating or air in most rooms) I just can't seem to find a major that fits me here. I guess since I'm more media oriented and the only program they have is journalism. (Digital media got slashed years ago, along with others, to put more $$$ into sports :P )

One thing that is a problem is that over 15 hours of gen-ed credits obtained from TBR colleges don't count here. (only as electives) They want me to take about another semester of "their" gen ed classes. Example: political science 101 apparently doesn't fulfill their social science requirement and I must take 102 and was told a petition would be denied.

The reason I ask about the quality is because their u.grad b.school is pretty strong and I'm thinking of just sticking around and doing that.
