My EFC is about 5000 dollars so how much should I expect from UVa in grants/loans? I hear UVa is pretty good when it comes to aid. Is this true?

Hmm that was about the same for my EFC, but what is your family structure (single parent/two parents)?

I got 26500 in grants, and 6k in loans, 2.5k in workstudy. But I also filed for financial aid late, so I have no idea if I’ll get more this time.

Plus, you also get emergency loans if you ever need to postpone payments.

I plan to do some major cost-cutting 2nd year – not get a dining plan, for one, probably cutting my eating expenses in half if not more, because I enjoy my own cooking (and only going to O’Hill when they serve really good stuff). It’s possible for off-grounds housing to be cheaper than on-grounds housing (if you stay the summer and work on research/internships/etc.)

2500 EFC ,OOS am also interested in fin aid at UVa, already have a great offer from Vanderbilt so am hoping it is competetive - I may be more of a public school kinda kid! Am headed to last years threads now.

So can I assume I will get pretty good financial aid money?

Does claiming education credit help your financial award? This year’s FAFSA looks quite a bit different from last year’s – e.g. asking if you lived on food stamps in 2007 (previously it was a six-month / 12-month thing I recall), among other things.

THANK YOU - THANK YOU - THANK YOU!! Got my aid package - I can afford to go!!! Didn’t want to be forced to pick Vandy for the $$.

Where’d you get your aid package?

Edit: I found it. But holy crap. My EFC was 15k and “You have no financial aid awards available for viewing in this aid year.”

I’m fairly certain your package hasn’t been posted yet if you are seeing that message. Keep checking!
