Everyone knows that UVA is one of the best, however it seems to me that their specialty is history/government etc. What about the natural sciences? I know they have good astronomy but I haven't heard much about anything else. I want to go to a top school & I want to do science, but I don't know which science just yet. I need someplace that has really good programs in all the sciences and a wide variety of majors. However, it is really hard for me to turn down UVA seeing as it's the 2nd best public universty in the nation and I'm a Virginia resident - this is why I need to know how good UVA's science is.

I'm not a big fan of the biology and chemistry programs but they're adequate with their share of good professors like most good schools. However, I think the Biomedical Engineering department is pretty kick azz. Although the classes are hard, you learn a great deal and the professors are as good as it gets. In fact, in a competitve biomedical symposium among several universities, biomed majors at UVA placed very well.

Maybe another student could elaborate on the science programs but in my opinion, they're pretty solid.

thank you...
