<p>i got accepted and i'm just wondering, how great is the school academically? like, is it as good as binghamton? or is it just your average not-so-great SUNY?</p>
<p>If you are going for sciences, it is the top SUNY. (though it does jostle with Buffalo in engineering and such)</p>

<p>a lot of people say it is the best or 2nd best school in the SUNY system. Ranked behind Binghamton by a few spots in the US News Report and 30 spots or so Better than Buffalo in the ranks. Its considered the flagship university of the SUNY system even if many remain in denial. I am studying Computer Science at Stony Brook and it is a great program. The Natural science programs are also excellent. Bottom line, if you are interested in the natural science/applied science/engineering field Stony Brook is the top. Binghamton and Stony Brook are also very cheap. </p>
<p>As said in other threads here in this forum, student life still lacks a lot in SB despite the efforts.</p>
