How good/What do you think of these college's?

Wittenberg University
Colby-Sawyer
Roger Williams
Notre Dame College
Saint Mary's (Minnesota)
Young Harris College
Wartburg
Kings College (Pensilvania)
SUNY (Cobleskill)
Uni of Dubuque

What are the reputations of these college's? Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

What are your stats?

What is your likely major/career?

Is money no object?

Are you instate for the SUNY?

I am an internation student from the UK - 3.2 GPA, looking to major in either Sports Management, Exercise Science or Similar. Waiting for my SAT result because of a delay but should be around 1700 - 1800, not sure on how much money have avaliable at the moment but should be reasonable amount. Have been in contact with college athletic coaches of these colleges which is why I want to find out.

Are these schools known to have good programs in Sports management, exercise science, etc? ( I have no idea. I thought bigger schools with sports programs might be better for these majors, but I could be totally wrong.)

BTW…you need to ask your family how much they plan on spending on your education. Some of those privates cost $35k per year or more.

I know that some of them have good programs, although I know some of them dont even offer it. I know I have atleast about £12000 avaliable well atleast for the first year anyway. Bigger schools with sports programs would probably be better for the major but the problem is my chances would be less of getting onto the sports team which is very important to me. These are the colleges I have been in contact with as I said, so yeah if a bigger one emails me then great

Bigger schools with sports programs would probably be better for the major but the problem is my chances would be less of getting onto the sports team which is very important to me.

What do you mean? Do you intend to play a sport? If so, which sport?

£12000 avaliable well at least for the first year anyway.

How much is that in US dollars? I think it’s about $18,500. I don’t think that’s enough for any of these schools. What about years 2, 3, 4?

Tennis, and yeh it is enough for about half of these schools. And that is per year not just first year.
That is atleast that amount, there is a high probability i can afford a lot more

I live in Wisconsin and am familiar with both St. Mary’s in Winona, Minnesota and the University of Dubuque in Iowa.

I know one of the professors at St. Mary’s socially. I also have a friend whose daughter will be graduating this spring from there. I only hear good things from both of them. From what I understand if you have some ability and the desire to participate you should be able to play sports. Academics are good. My friend’s daughter is applying to grad schools and has had positive feedback from the schools she has applied to for OT. The campus is lovely and the students are friendly. Winona is not a huge city but there is plenty to do. Winona is also home to Winona State University so there are plenty of college students around.

One of the women I work with has a grandson at Univ of Dubuque. She can’t say enough good things about the school. It sounds like a very nurturing environment. Her grandson feels like the teachers really care about his sucess. Before he even applied the admissions staff was very helpful whenever they called with questions. When they finally went for a visit to see the school they were warmly greeted by name.

Young Harris and Cobleskill are primarily junior colleges (two-year schools from which students transfer for their final two years) that have recently developed some four-year programs. Of all these schools, I’d say that Wittenberg is the one whose reputation extends beyond its immediate area.

Tennis, and yeh it is enough for about half of these schools.

For which schools do you have enough funding?

Are you only looking at tuition costs? Are you including room, board, books, etc? To get an education Visa, you have to show that you have funds for the total cost of attendance.

That really doesn’t seem like enough money, unless you can get scholarships. SUNY Cobleskill is probably the cheapest. The only ones I’ve heard of beside that are Colby-Sawyer and Wittenberg.

Notre Dame

I will have more than that amount of money avaliable, probably quite a lot more than that if I need it.

If it is helpful, Drexel University in Philly is supposed to have one of the top programs in Sports Management. It is expensive (about $48k) but they are sometimes quite generous. You’d probably need a SAT M/V total of 1200-1250.

I suggest that you check the whole SUNY system for schools that carry your desired major. There are so many schools, that it is likely that one or more SUNY schools have your major. Even if you are out of state, the SUNY price is one of the best bargains you will find. Most SUNYs are Division III. If you are applying for this Fall, you had better hurry.
