I need help in convincing my husband and my d that Elon is worth visiting. We are new to the east coast (originally from California) and I had my d apply to Elon because co-workers and other mothers convinced me that she should apply. My d has applied to mostly northeastern schools and had no interest in the south because she thinks it's too conservative for her (same for her dad) and they have no Nursing program. Of course, husband and d does not do as much college research as I do and I really think Elon is worth looking into. I think she can major in either biology or chemistry and still get into the medical field.

Any thoughts out there is greatly appreciated!!!

If you have to try to hard to convince them, it might not be the right place. The best thing my parents ever did for me was take me to see all the colleges I liked and all the ones they liked..and in the end, let me make the decision. All you can do is expose your daughter to everything and then support her decision. She needs to be happy, and as a result, you will be too.

Disclaimer- I have a son at Elon; I am a nurse.

Elon is a great school, but if your daughter is serious about Nursing, it is not for her. If Medical School is her ultimate goal, she should reconsider Nursing and Elon would be a great, nurturing place, for any major.

My oldest son did not want to look at Elon. We (I) insisted and he fell in love with the school. He attended and graduated from there in 2004 with absolutely no regrets.

If your d. is interested in nursing, she may well want to go to a school where there is a program in place and she would not have to transfer after 2nd year. My niece is at a school w/o a nursing program and will be transferring to continue her education in nursing. However, as mominva stated, if d. is not "set" on a major or interested in other medical fields, Elon may serve her purpose very well.

I don't know much about Elon; I'm checking out this board because I want to find out more about it. It sounds pretty great.

To the OP: If your D's heart is set on nursing, she should probably go to a school that has a nursing program that she can start as a Freshman. It is very hard to get accepted into Nursing schools these days, especially as a transfer student.
