How guaranteed is fall admission to UCSD with TAG?

If a student has a 3.0 or slighly abov a 3.0, is it still guaranteed admission? Just curious.

It was somewhat hit and miss this year, some kids with TAG got rejected somehow! It was ridiculous.

People who were rejected with TAG either were part of an error in the system or did not meet TAG conditions. People who say otherwise on the latter are lying to themselves and others. People who are a part of the former group can easily correct the error by calling the admissions office.

TAG is a guaranteed admission. As long as you meet all of the conditions then you will be accepted.

Do you have to complete IGETC before signing up for TAG? Or can I take a mixture of IGETC and major preparation courses?

Here are the provisions good fella [ASSIST Report: AHC 09-10 UCSD Articulation Agreement by Major](<a href=“Welcome to ASSIST”>Welcome to ASSIST)

@Kender

Did UCSD ever gave an official statement regarding the errors? I just want to confirm. It sounds too good to be true.

@Topic. TAG guarantees admission, but not to majors that are impacted. The impacted majors are:

All bio related majors, aerospace engineering and mechanical engineering.

My friend’s girlfriend got REJECTED w/TAG as a BIO major because UCSD had without ANY notice to her had changed the cut-off GPA to 3.2.

totaldj: Not that I’ve heard, but UCSD has made a lot of errors over the last couple years. I loved the one where they accepted everyone. Yes: everyone including those who were actually rejected. I worked at the heart of my JC for students before I transferred to UCSC so I was privileged to hear quite a number of groaning and moaning over this fun little hiccup when admission decisions were going out.

jyi90: Your friend’s girlfriend as totaldj stated in the post above yours was guaranteed admission to UCSD, but not into an impacted major. Can you please show me where there was a change made to the TAG agreement that upped the minimum GPA requirement from 3.0 to a 3.2? UCSD’s website still states the 3.0 number.

I think you’re not getting the whole story from your friend’s girlfriend. Either she did not have an alternate major or she did not meet the requirements. I have severe doubts about the change to a 3.2 as the reason unless you can produce something that stated this change.

(Emphasis mine.)

How could one ensure that they successfully transfer to UCSD into an impacted major? Would maintaining a high GPA help at all or make any difference?

^ pre-reqs + high gpa. UCSD says you want to shoot for at least a 3.4 for impacted majors over the 3.0 required for tag.

Wait, if you tag UCSD, and get in, you’re not actually in the major right?

So what’s the case if you don’t tag and get in? are you admitted into the major too?

i think you are admitted into your chosen major for sure when its not an impacted major…

What my friend told me was she was a bio major. He also said she did TAG. huh.

UCSD’s TAG works like this.

A 3.0 + IGETC guarantees you admission to the UNIVERSITY. Your major and choice of college are not guaranteed. If you pick an impacted major and are not competitive for that major you will be admitted into your second choice (as long as it’s not impacted). If the major is open you will be admitted directly to the major with no issue. You are not required to complete pre-reqs to be eligible for UCSD’s TAG as they are not a condition of admission, but for an impacted major you need to get as much done with as high a GPA as possible to be competitive.

jyi90, your friends girlfriend’s neighbors daughters cousin is lying to you. she probably ****ed up and did NOT complete her math and or english prior to fall semester of her transferring year, or did not finish the TAG with some other type of problem.

With TAG you also cannot get an F in any class, lie on your application, provide any false info about classes you were taking in spring/going to take in fall, and you have to finish your last semester (fall) with all C’s or better. i know tons of people who got rescinded because they “got a D in golf 101” or something stupid like that. also, tons of people’s application went down the ****ter when they clicked the TAG checkbox on the application but hadnt fulfilled the ENG/MATH req.

PROOF: i was accepted with TAG to UCSD, UCSB, and UCSC this year… i have a 3.1. no 3.2 cutoff, she is full of ****

ps, to poster… just take the underlining advise in my ^ post, and stay focused into your last year and especially last semester at CC. study hard and get good grades, make sure to take those math and english, and do as many prereqs for your major that you can! most people that do this dont need TAG, but it issssss nice to have a guarantee and not sweat it.

also, if you dont get into your major at ucsd, ei bio, dont fret because switching majors at ucsd is easy. my friends have switched like 4 times, including into bio

Definitely comforting to hear. :)

Thank you everyone. I am a psychology major and am doing very well so far, will keep up the good work :)

Ok, I know I previously asked this, but I still need clarification. If I am in a jc from 2010-2011, I think I sign up for TAG fall of 2011. In this case, do I need to complete IGETC before signing TAG - in 2010?

I would prefer to take classes not related to my major (like art) during the end of my jc experience, but if I have to take them all before signign TAG, I wil do otherwise.

No, you do not need to finish IGETC by the time you apply. You have until Spring of 2011 to finish it.
