I took Spanish 5/6 as a 10th grader and have not taken Spanish in two years. How hard is first and second year Spanish at IU? I am thinking about taking Spanish 1 but it looks like a lot of time/work and not sure if I should just take second year Spanish if I test into it.

I had the exact same situation and I took 105 which counts as and combine the first two semester of spanish. If you are in College of Arts and Sciences and getting a BS then all you need is one more semester after that.

A foreign language is not required of Kelley majors these days. Seems like a lot of work with little reward to start a foreign language at the freshman level. Testing into the fifth semester (S280 for Spanish), however, and then getting six free credits for S200 and
S250 (after getting four free credits for S105) after passing S280 is a good deal.

bthomp1…so if I test out of Spanish 105, 200 and 250 I dont have to take the language and world culture general ed requirement? and I will receive 10 credits?

If so I had better start studying Spanish
