I’m going to MSU and want to major in accounting. I took Honors Accounting and Honors Managerial Accounting in high school and understood the concepts quickly, and actually enjoyed doing income statements, balance sheets, and work sheets unlike most students in my class. I also found some past practice exams for ACC 201 and 202 and found the questions to be fairly easy.
I’ve heard the grading is harsh and the dropout rate for Accounting majors is very high at MSU, which worries me because I was always an average student. How are the Accounting classes at MSU?
I am an SCM major, but accounting has a reputation for being very competitive. It’s a selective program and pretty much all accounting majors are competing for Big 4 jobs. ACC 201 and 202 are challenging because they are weed out classes to get into Broad.
Accounting is still a top 15 program though so you’re still better off than accounting majors at most other schools.
You’ve already discovered you love accounting and have a knack for it, so it will be no problem for you. Weed out classes typically weed out prople who did not figure out all that in high school already (the same people your high school classes are weeding out by showing them they don’t have a knack for it). You should thrive in accounting.
