Hi
i’m currently a high school student in the last semester and looking into what universities to apply to
i have some questions that i suspect a single person can answer all of them, so if you can help me with one or two points please don’t hesitate, and if you can help me with all of them that’s even better !
now to the main point
1)how hard are the universities in the UK in general and how is the workload ?
2)are the best universities in the UK harder than normal ranked universities ?
by the best universities i mean (( no oxford or cambridge, 0% of entering them )) :
Manchester
Southampton
Bristol
Loughborough
Nottingham
Edinburgh
Birmingham
and the normal ranked universities are:
the universities that are ranked 35-65
so again
are the universities that i mentioned above noticeably harder than normal ranked universities and have tougher workload ?
how hard are the universities in Canada in general and how is the workload in universities like :
Simon Fraser University
University of Victoria
Queen’s University
University of Waterloo
York University
You can look at the sunday times for the Uk rankings against each other and globally, but really you need to be specific about what your major will be, aware of the fact you will have to pay for it all, are you US or International? Do you understand the issues of visa’s etc and are you aware of the timeline for UCAS? As for Ca schools, do you understand the cost for non Canadians?
Each UK school will cite it’s own requirements for admission and again you are back to major choice. Remember the UK schools don’t give a hoot about your ECs, and you go straight into your subject. Depending on your choices a BA might be 3 years, engineering now being 4 but maybe including a masters or a year abroad.
UK schools may not rank overall but may have niches where they shine, your list is pointless without referring to your subject.
i’m an international, will be studding civil engineering
i got everything covered regarding deadlines, visa’s, requirements, costs etc
the only thing that concerns at the moment is the difficulty in general and if i will be expected to put a much greater effort if decided to go to one of the universities i stated above
When is the UCAS deadline? I hear UCAS application is easier than the US where the common app might not really be that common.
I imagine on your UK list the most competitive schools are Edinburgh (because it will have true global interest, not sure about the major) and maybe Nottingham as far as I know of engineering but not civil.
