I just started school on thursday, and AP bio has alreadly bogged me down with homework. My teacher expects us to do a whole chapter every day and the pace/ content is really stressful. Before I took the class, I heard that bio wasnt too hard. My question: is my teacher just being hard core, or was I wrong?

Now I'm not necessarily advising you to slack off in the class, but I took AP Bio last year, and I never did ANYTHING. We had cambell (sp) which I assume you have as well, and were also going at a relatively rigorous pace. I really blew off the class because I hate bio (I'm a physics gal) and I thought I'd be in at least some amount of trouble for the test, but I ended up pulling a 5 anyway. I'm not naturally gifted or like super into bio or anything so I think that it being easy can generally apply to everyone overall. The test is scaled dramatically as there's so much subject matter that they don't expect you to know all of it. This is why most schools don't accept the ap bio credit even with a 5.

yeahhh a whole chapter everyday!!
my teacher asked us to do the same thing...=(
that's really a lot!!

My class is reading a chapter a day also.

A lot of classes do that sort of syllabus. Expect pain. jennyanne89's example is a little bit of a fluke with the ap bio exam, she may be a good test taker. Though you shouldn't be perfectionalist in that class, you shouldn't also "never [do] ANYTHING" like jennyanne89, a strategy that will not help most people

AP Bio I felt is a really tough class if you're taking a lot of AP's with it. I rarely had time to read the chapters we were assigned. We used the red Campbells Biology book. The tests were very specific and that made it challenging. When it came to the AP exam I just used Cliffs. I think Cliffs would have been really handy during the year but I didn't use it till studying for the AP. I ended up getting a 5 .

ap bio was a lot of work, but i got an A (one of only 2 ppl) and a 5 on the test. the worst part was that at my school, summer school is mandatory for ap bio students

is cliffs better or the sparks power pack?

well if you are looking to slide by with a B/B+ average and get a 3 on the exam then it is wicked easy. we were assigned a chapter every 3 nights and everyday he gave us a ton of handouts that he expected us to read. I never read the chapters just listened in class and never read those handouts. Biology is really easy stuff because as long as you listen in class then you will do great. I dont advise not reading the material like I did but dont stress if you dont finsh a chapter a night becasue it has to slow down some time because there most likely arent enough chapters to last the whole year if you do one every night! Good Luck with it and dont get stressed out from it!

Definately get Cliffs. That is the number one choice when it comes to AP Biology prep books. If you want a supplement I'd recommend the PR SAT Subject Test review book because it's simple and easy to read and it's actually enjoyable. I finished it in about 7 hours. Its detail is nowhere near Cliffs therefore that should be your first choice.

all ap bio classes start out hard to scare you. it dies down. 4th week into school and still have a 99

It's already been FOUR WEEKS for you? Damn. Well, your class is just one class in one school.
