How hard is AP chemistry?

Hey I was wondering how difficult AP chemistry is? I’ll be taking it my sophmore year the 2015-2016 school year. Many people who’ve taken the class have told me how fast paced and difficult it is. However, I’m still curious. I’ll be taking a total of 2 AP classes this school year; AP European history and AP chemistry. I’m a straight A student but I’m still nervous about the class. I will try anything to get an A bit I want to prepare myself for the worst.

To be completely honest, I have talked to people who have taken a lot of ap’s including ap chemistry and a lot of them said it was the hardest test out of all of them. So if the test is hard, the class will be hard if you have good teacher. But keep in mind, many colleges know which of the ap tests are harder and doing well in ap chemistry will really improve your application.

I took AP Chem as a sophomore this year, and for me it was a really easy class. It was the only class I managed to pull a perfect 100 in. I think the key is similar to that of other AP courses, keep up. Read when and what you’re supposed to. Utilize multiple sources to make sure you understand the material. As far as the AP test itself, I think it’s definitely one of the more challenging ones. Make sure you do a lot of practice tests from previous years. I’m sure if you put effort into it, you’re almost certain to get an A. Good luck!

I don’t much like Chemistry, but the class was definitely not impossible; the exam is a bit challenging though (I found the written portion a lot easier than the MC portion). My advice to you would be to make sure you understand every concept thoroughly. You should take it. And no offense @Frigidcold, but I think you’re a bit of an anomaly.

If you like chemistry and sciences it should be fairly manageable. I found it easy anyway. There was not much math on ap test. Just mostly concepts.

Based on what I’ve heard, the rule for ANY AP class depends on the school and the teacher. That being said, Chem AP has a reputation for having material that requires a lot of analysis (more so than most other APs) and thus requires more prep, etc. In my school, for instance, our Chem AP teacher is tough as nails and is the hardest teacher. We usually have no more than 10-15 kids make it past the first semester in her AP class (much less in her honors class!) but I’ll be ****ed if those kids aren’t prepared for the AP exam. It’s all about the time you put in and your teacher.

It was literally the most difficult class I have ever taken. I did not understand any of the concepts, and the entire class is basically concepts. It was my lowest grade by a few points, and my teacher even did a lot to try to make our grades better. If you just get science, then have fun with the class. However, it was just something I never “got,” no matter how much I studied.

ap chem is all about dedication, of all my classes, ap chem was the class i put ahead of anything, as long as you want that A and youre willing to work for it, you will succeed!

Thank you lots
