..I hear that it is frowned upon by big schools..please help!

It is. And it’s not difficult at all.

if science isn’t my focus [business] is it still a key factor?

It’s a joke. If you don’t have an A in that class–there is something wrong with you. I took an environmental science elective at my school (the only kids in my class were seniors who didn’t want to take actual science classes/APs) so I could “self-study” and literally, studied the night before and got a 5. If you read magazines like Time that covers big environmental issues, the rest is common sense.

Edit: I don’t know, I think it still looks like the easy way out. Just my opinion though. If you take a science course alongside it (I took Physics), or AP Bio or AP Chem or something, it would be fine. But Enviro is a joke and everyone knows it.

Kind of, not really. Even as a business major, they’d rather see that you took something like AP Biology or AP Chemistry rather than AP Environmental Science. However, when science isn’t your intended major, the tough courses can hurt your GPA. That’s the same reason why I’m taking AP Environmental Science over AP Chemistry as well next year. And top colleges won’t reject you just because you didn’t take “the absolutely difficultest class evar possible.”

That’s what I was thinking…a college can only demand so much, especially away from the focus of the student…if I was going into Science, I would be taking a more difficult course, but considering the fact that I’ll boost my GPA with a 5.0 and do well on the AP Test, is it something that is accepted?

You’re a freshman now (I saw that on the other thread). That’s fine for a sophomore. Go for it. I don’t think its necessarily “looked down upon” its just not going to help you much.

If you were a senior, or a junior, maybe I’d be giving you different advice but you’re already over-achieving.

It’s an easy subject. It depends on the teacher… she or he can make it very time-consuming, like mine.

We called it AP coloring in my school

I’m a sophomore now, next year will be taking ap eng, hist, environmental…and as a senior ap eng, hist, math, statistics, maybe physics, maybe econ…

so it’s easy, but is it okay for the rest of my courses…i don’t want a college to look at it and see a slacking class

Top schools won’t look at it and say, “Wow, environmental science, incredible!” like they might for Calc BC, but I definitely wouldn’t say it’s a slacking class. There are *plenty *of kids who get into Ivies from my school who take Environmental.

wow. at my school it’s actually considered a pretty difficult course. Not the AP test, but the class I’ve heard is pretty hard.

It’s easier than a regular class. I never do any homework or even read the book. I basically just sit in class and do homework the period before.

This class is what made me think I didn’t have to study.
