Is it self-studyable?

my teacher was really funny and all but couldn't teach at all! the way i got an A in the class and a 5 was by reading/taking notes on every single chapter in our textbook. so yes, i think you can study on your own if you have the discipline

Okay. It's easy to pass, but, if you look at the stats, very hard to get a 5. (Like 6% get fives annually.) So, go for it.

It helps if you took AP US history.

Not hard at all. Biggest issue was taking the class in fall semester and forgetting court cases by May.

REA books are good for self-study.

Don't get too caught up in the % of 5's. I saw this and freaked out but I got 5's on both Gov tests when they came so as long as you study and have a nice testing day, it's an easy score.

my class was a joke worth of 1st semester as we watched Colbert half the time and I got a 5 without really studying minus a short cram. It's basically just common sense, a lot of the stuff you just kind of have to know, reading the newspaper is probably the best prep.

I got an A easily. Thought the class was very simple and had a fantastic teacher, but I got a 3 on the exam.....

Very very easy to self study. There isn't a lot of info. to cover, and the exam questions were basic definitions (on this year's test, anyway).

I studied in like 2 weeks and got a 5.

This question just came up here tonight when S1 was giving younger brother advice-

He took AP Euro, AP USH and AP Govt. Said Euro was the hardest, Govt the easiest. He got all 5's by making sure he studied the whole textbook(s), since much of the material wasn't covered in class. He found this method more helpful than purchasing review guides.

Easiest AP I took by far. You can definitely self study it.

My school didn't have AP Gov. I took regular old honors government, read through a review book and looked on outlines I found on the internet starting a week before and got a 5. I found it really easy.

The exam was a joke. If you took 8th grade civics, read a newspaper, or otherwise have even the slightest idea how our government works, you have no excuse not to get at least a 4. I blew the class off, didn't read the textbook, and left the dumbest essay blank, and I 5'd it without breaking a sweat.

The test is easy, but the curve is not. You need like 85% right on multiple choice to get a 5

It’s not hard, just really boring.

Um…this thread is 2 years old. o.o

I got a 5 as well in 08. Its not too hard if you have an interest in Gov’t. All I did was take practice tests like 3 times…in addition to the class just reading the book. Its definitely doable…just keep doin those practice tests and getting those study books that highlight each section.

Can you get away with just reading a prep-book and not the actual textbook? The prep-book would be more concise and possibly better cover the AP material, but it would be less detailed. Are details important to this test?

well i’d have the textbook for reference just to skim. but in my opinion, yes, its doable. if you do well on the practice tests then you’re good to go. be prepared for all the essay questions though…have one of your gov’t teachers at the HS look at it. Multiple choice is crucial if you want a 5. In addition, be straight to the point with the essay questions its not written like an English essay. Support your claims with hard facts and throw some detail in there if you feel knowledgable. If your knowledge on one of the prompts is iffy then dont go too much into detail to where your BSing too much. A little BS is okay. Just be prepared and you’ll pass, it wont be easy though. O ya, and time yourself accordingly.

It’s a semester long course at my school. nuff said

^I’m fairly certain that it’s always a semester long course. It is at my school.
