How hard is Berkeley?

How hard would it be to get a 3.5 in a Liberal Arts or Business major?

It would depend on the major. (PEIS) Political Economy of Industrialized Societies would be rather difficult, as would Political Science and economics. Haas classes are extremely easy. So are some other liberal arts majors such as Legal Studies. Berkeley students know a lot about each major and its difficulty. There is a ranking system on campus, where the toughest majors like EECS, CS, MCB, PEIS, Haas, Economics, Math, etc... get a lot of oohs and aahs.

gpa is a function of how much work you put in
the average gpa of all colleges within berkeley is 3.2, so getting a 3.5 in l+s is very feasible

no average GPA in Berkeley overall is 2.8

3.2 says one of the daily cal articles last week

^ When I graduated in 2000, it was 2.8. Also, can you provide a link please? Those statistics may only include certain majors and not include those who dropped out or are on a break.

it includes all majors.

Thank you my good fwend.

What do these programs stand for? EECS, CS, MCB, PEIS ???

electrical engineering and computer science
computer science
molecular cell biology
?

thanks hwtf

In answer to the OP's post - certain liberal arts majors are cakewalks. I don't want to name them here, but everybody at Berkeley knows what they are, and if you end up going to Berkeley, you will find out soon enough. These are classes where you basically don't have to do much of anything at all and still get a quite good grade.

Haas business classes do tend to be grade-inflated. However, there is a major major catch which is that you before you can major in bus-ad at Haas as an undergrad, you first have to get admitted (as a junior) into the Haas undergrad program, and that is no joke. The competition for spots in the program is intense. Only about half of the internal-transfer applicants (meaning applicants who are already at Berkeley) who apply to Haas undergrad will actually get in, and that obviously doesn't include those people who want to get into Haas, but don't apply because they know that they don't have the qualifications. That means that there is a tremendously significant risk that if you go to Berkeley as a freshman hoping to major in bus-ad at Haas, that you will not make it. TFurthermore, the lower-division requirements that you need to be eligible to get into Haas are notorious weeders. Hence, you run the significant risk of trying to go for Haas and not only not getting in, but ruining your GPA in the process.

PEIS = Political Economy of Industrialized Societies
When I was at Cal, it was one of the most respected majors, and was known for having some of the toughest classes.
