im not exactly sure, but i know that you can get the PPE certificate if you major in economics, woody woo, or poly sci.

but economics is a very subjective field, so I'm not sure you can say theres no big picture in econ.

Agreed :) [10]

to get PPE you need to be an ECO or POL major. you can enter the program from either major (but the requirements are slightly different).

What do the two p's stand for?

program in political economy

merci (thanks)

A lot of times (especially if you go on to grad school), what you majored in during undergrad doesn't really matter. You can study something and then end up in something completely different.

True, but be careful. You can go to grad school in anything, but if you switch fields dramatically -- especially from a non-technical to a technical field -- you do sacrifice things. First of all, it's harder to get into good schools, and once you're in, probably harder to get money. (In grad school, financial aid is totally different. Your professor's research funding will likely support you, supplemented by income from your teaching assistantships.) Then, you'll have to "make up" any fundamental courses in the field that you did not take as an undergraduate. For engineering or econ, this can be a lot if you majored in art history. It can add a couple years to your education, which can be expensive if you're at a school that enforces limits on your time-to-graduation. Many revoke "privileges" like campus housing and teaching assistantships if you take too long to finish.

In other words, if you want to keep options open, take the technical courses. It's generally easier to swing back the other way.

Thanks for clarifying that. I guess, not being a technical person nor ever intending to be, I was only thinking of say, majoring in English/Econ/Art History and going to law school, which would be no problem.

Yeah, that'd totally work. Just keep that GPA up -- much of your competition will come from those departments. :-)

Major misconception correction: you DO NOT have to be prelaw to go to law school. Hence no prelaw major at Princeton, though there is an extracurricular prelaw society.

Ashley

Law schools, along with a strong GPA and a solid bachelors degree, often view it as a plus to have taken an "interesting" course of study, or a unique porgram. What would be such examples of programs we could take at Princeton?

And what are the most common majors listed on Law School applications: Philosophy, Economics, History and English?

Polisci too, I'll bet.

An interesting major might be biology or Classics, or maybe creative writing. There's really no limit to what you can major in...I don't think any major would really prevent you from getting into law school, provided you have the grades and a good LSAT score (sighh and I thought my standardized testing days were over)

I mean, if a girl can go to Harvard Law with a degree in fashion design, anything's possible :p

Haha, but she was in a Ricky Martin video!

Her puppy was really cute, too. I think that's what got her in. No doubt about it.

You know who has a cute puppy? Jessica Simpson's maltipoo Daisy. (Yes I stalk her dog) It's sooo cute though. I want an apricot maltipoo (which is a maltese + poodle mix, I'm not just inventing cute names)

I love maltipoos! I'm determined to have one whenever I get my studio loft in NYC and live my starving artist life

CS would be interesting... there's a lot of reverse engineering, internet regulation, patent law, etc. in those areas.

heart phil...
I'm going to get a maltipoo or a shi-tzu...I saw the cutest blonde one the other day in a pet store and it was all jumping on the glass and smiling at me awwwww

Awww! Now that's love. Yes it is. Maltipoos are precious. I really like the dark-haired ones. I either want a maltipoo, a chow chow, a lab, or some type of terrier (my current dog has a lot of terrier in him as well as poodle). My parents and friends know never to take me by a pet store: one, because I'll try and free all the animals, and two, those I can't free (aka all) I'll buy :D

What are the best econ. schools? i'm lookin 2 major..
