I heard it is almost impossible for international students to even get accepted to this school even if you get a high scores on SAT or ACT. If I have 33 on my ACT+ lots of EC’s like student government and sports+ lots of service hours (few months) + around 700 on Chem and Math II SAT II, are there even slight chance for me to get into MIT?
Probably not.
Pretty hard. A lot of international students I know at MIT are extremely bright and have some impressive accomplishments.
MIT has a cap on the international students it accepts. For the Class of 2018, the acceptance rate for international students was 3.0% compared to an overall acceptance rate of 7.9%. So, yeah, it’s difficult to get admitted.

Its pretty hard to be accepted even as a domestic applicant. Among my group of friends and I, we have a Siemens Finalist, a USAMOer, and a Intel Semifinalist. Only the Finalist was accepted, with me and my USAMO friend being rejected and wait listed respectively.
MIT wont like your 700 on SAT II MATH II. and yes it is harder for the international students to get into MIT
On a positive note, this year international students can apply EA. It is not clear that EA at MIT improves odds of admission, however…
I’m getting the following numbers from http://mitadmissions.org/apply/process/stats
Last yer (2014), around 3940 international students applied and 119 got in. That’s 3%, a DRASTICALLY small number. To put it in perspective:
Ivy leagues usually hover around the 6-8% mark in acceptance rates (Cornell being around 12-14% usually, really depends because there’s different colleges). Stanford is the lowest with an acceptance rate around 5%. Even Carnegie Mellon’s Computer Science is still 6%.
MIT for both EA and RD is around the same percentages as an Ivy League, but international students can be at a disadvantage (note they only accepted 3% of international applicants). Plus, internationals may have qualifications and be bright, but many factors can hinder them. Poor essay writing. Being too cliche or generic. Not showing interests in the proper way. Watch out for these when applying.
That being said, don’t give up. When you apply to MIT, give it your all, but don’t get hinged on just that school. No one is guaranteed to get into MIT. There are other great schools in the US. Wherever you apply, put care into your application and make sure your persona shines through.
Good luck
i guess it’ll be tough but i will still try my best!
Spend your time on schools where you have a better chance. While MIT is great, so are other schools. These schools seem to mean more to international applicants than US students.
Look at schools like Michigan where you will also get a full dose of American college experience.
