How hard is it really

To get into Andover or Exeter? Is Hotchkiss a much easier target?
If you got in, can you post your old chance post here plz.

I got rejected by Loomis but waitlisted at Hotchkiss last year. And my Hotchkiss app was a late app.

There are many variables that could get you in or wait listed to any school. Thats why most will advise you to always consider a less competitive school on your list for safety. I think I remember your old post. You needed some FA. That could explain the Loomis /Hotchkiss outcome.

Well if your a well rounded candidate, your chances are much higher than you might think. Let’s take Exeter for example. Last year’s admissions rate was 19%, BUT…

let’s say 1/8 of the candidates didn’t want to go to BS but their parents wanted them to, most would purposely mess up the interview to not get in.

ethnicity, Asians have a lesser chance of getting in than African Americans or Hispanic Americans because there is an underabundance of AA and HA candidates and an over abundance of Asians candidate( idk if this applys to caucasin candidates)

another 1/16 candidates may be super geniuses but social outcasts.

Im not gonna take the time to calculate that, but don’t underestimate your chances :)

@SnapePotter,
I read on Andover’s blog last year that 75% of the applicants applying were “academically admissible”. So Andover gets apox. 1,400 applications for ninth grade boarding class, let’s assume that only 1,050 they think could handle the work. So, out of those 1,050 let’s say (this is a just a guess) 200 of them have TERRIBLE interviews. And I don’t mean, “Oh my interviewer didn’t like me” thing, but I mean that they’re so awkward that they can’t carry on a conversation with adults. And let’s say again another 200 of them had another thing about them which made the AOs decide to reject them. It could be the fact that they were swearing a ton of their facebook pages, (Yes, schools look at our facebook pages) or that their teacher recommendations put up a red flag to AOs (Stuff like “is not respectful” and “is a loner, a recluse”.) So now we only have 650 applications left. Andover can only admit aprox. 200 of these. So 200/650 is 0.307 or 30.7% admit rate at this point in time. So from here we can eliminate the candidates who wrote terrible essays. And I mean terrible. I’ve known some kids with great grades who do a ton of ECs but who can’t write for their lives. Now let’s say 200 of these people wrote awful essays. Now we’re down to 450 applicants left. These are the group that Andover calls “provisional admits”. (They describe this process in a blog post) From here, you have a a 44.4% chance of being admitted. So, at this point it’s really luck. I know most of this is speculation, but it seems to make sense. I did a very detailed post about this earlier on. If you click my name you can read it. It’s called “Andover ninth grade admissions” I think. In general, I figure it’s hard to get in, but if you’re well rounded, and not totally awkward, you’re better off than you think like @scales1994 said.

Thank you very much people.

I thought you would know, seeing as how you’re the expert on prep school chances, and you’re always commenting so arrogantly and knowledgeably on the forums.

hahaha middleschool8 yes I am the all-knowing chancer on this entire forum that’s why you should come and comment on this thread.
OF COURSE I’M KIDDING YOU, KID.

What might seem arrogant to you is that I’m giving my opinion based on what I’ve seen on the prep school section over the past year seeing who got accepted on what basis and standards.
Yes I do pour out arrogance all over the show because I am all that. and you’re not. dawg. Do you want me to CHANCE you? I oath to God that I give my honest opinion every time I chance and I don’t really care if one tells me that I’m arrogant or act like a meanie on chance threads.

Someone has to play the role of the honest, “ARROGANT” one this season  hahaha and more than those like me play the ENCOURAGING, easy to impress role-- creates a balance right? Apparently, many applicants feel intimidated when they read everyone’s chance threads and critique themselves yet they get their hopes high. So my role is important to give balance to applicants to not be reassured but to still have them some kind of hope and re-encouragement. This all blunts down possible rejection/ confusion after receiving the letter.

Don’t just defy me. I am justified.

well replied answer, and to bring the proof of burden further on, even the top psychologists in the world, will have another psychologist examine them if needed, because they know they cannot objectively review or reflect on themselves. After all, the things you think, no one else sees, and that’s how admissions works, you have to make sure it’s easy to get a picture of the positive aspects of a candidate. As the clich
