Economics is a [capped major](http://ls-advise.berkeley.edu/major/majorlist.html) that you have to apply to declare.

If you like math and are good at it, you may want to consider a combination of math, economics, statistics, and computer science (major in one, official or unofficial minors in some of the others) which can give you options in quantitative finance, actuarial science, and/or software development, depending on the combination of courses. Also of interest would be [Operations Research and Management Science](http://ls-advise.berkeley.edu/major/ops.html), but that is also a capped major.
