I applied to UCSB for a Computer Science major, but when I was accepted they accepted me as an undeclared major in the College of Letters and Science and said that Computer Science was out of space. My question is how hard would it be to go to UCSB for 2 years doing my general ed (or even right at the beginning of my first year) and then switch to a computer science major? I also applied for computer science at UC Irvine, but they haven't made their decision yet. I'd much rather go to UCSB, but would you recommend that I go to UCI if I get accepted for computer science there or would it be safe enough to go to UCSB and plan on switching majors to computer science?

I am in the same scenario as you. I got accepted into the College of Letters and Sciences at UCSB, but I want to switch into the College of Engineering for comouter science.
I talked to the admissions lady and she told me that it is extremely hard, and pretty much told me to go to a different UC.
UCSB is my dream school, and I want to know if it is possible to if I applied for the switch with a 4.0

Oh man, upon looking further into the majors, it seems I too would want to be in the computer science in the College of Engineering instead of the computer science in the College of Letters and Science. I say this because I am looking to ultimately end up programming software or possible video games, but it seems the College of Letters and Science won’t prepare you for that kind of work. So then my question changes to how hard would it be to change between the colleges from an undeclared in the College of Letters and Science to a computer science major in the College of Engineering, and when would/should I be able to switch?
