I was wondering how hard it is to change majors within the CAS as well as across schools (I might want to go to McIntire and do a Business major or do a policy sci/international relations major). I was accepted to CAS as Chemistry/ Pre-Medicine (Advising tract).

I am interested in majoring in neuroscience if I stay at CAS and I was wondering about how competitive the program is and the process for applying.

Thanks

You don’t declare your major in SEAS until after your first year, so I think you are fine.

Lol…
- bust: only hazel gets to give out the condencending-google-search gem. Lay off…

2) wof: not SEAS in there…

3) The answer: majors in CAS are pretty easy to change, you don’t really declare till the end of your second year when you are finishing your core classes. What you put down on your application is by no means set in stone (for any school, except Nursing obviously).
As for McIntire, you don’t apply for that until second year too. However, if you’re thinking about Business, you’ll need to take some pre-reqs so you’ll have to fit those in to your schedule. Shouldn’t be that hard, and you could always use the classes to try to go for an econ minor if you stick to neuro.
I don’t know much about applying to certain majors in CAS, but I know most majors the term “applying” means putting it down on paper. If neuro is capped or something, that might be a whole other ballgame, and that determines how “competitive” it is.

I had to be put back into my place Shoebox
It was just to tempting.

Thanks shoebox.

Yea Neuro is capped at 25 a year. Does anyone know approximately how many people apply to Neuro each year? (A lot of my interests lie in sports medicine and Neuro-trauma)
Would you recommend any major for a pre-med at uva?

thanks

Oh, my bad shoebox =D.

Vbh, for pre-med, any major that’s not biology related is the most helpful. No, really. Don’t do biology if you want pre-med, you’ll just make it harder on yourself for the MCAT…

does anyone have any experience with the Neuroscience Major at UVA? I know the program is pretty new and that its capped it 25 people a year and looking to take students interested in research and med school.
I’ve seen over Facebook that a lot of people who are going to UVA this coming yr want to do neuroscience, so I’m scared that’s its going to be really competitive, is psychology my only other similar option?
