How much harder is it to double major than to just declare one major? How much more would the workload be if, say, I double majored in economics and environmental studies than if I simply majored in economics and minored in enviro or dropped environmental studies altogether. I've heard that economics can get pretty tough.

Economics/environmental studies is a pretty doable combination. Economics isn’t that difficult, econometrics is tricky for most and you might have to take some upper level statistics/math classes but generally economics doesn’t involve the crazy studying of most other majors. I’m a double major in economics & international relations and my courseload is completely manageable.

Would you say that economics is a generally easier major than environmental studies or the other way around?

Thanks!

Depends on you and your inclinations, and also the program. In some places environmental studies is more science-based and in others it’s more of a human ecology/social science type major. (My undergrad had two programs - environmental science and environmental studies. The first was more chemistry + physics + biology in an environmental sense and the second was more human ecology and social relations).
