After this semester (Fall 2017), I will be a sophomore electrical engineering student in terms of progress (who has also completed a couple of 300-level classes). Including this semester, I will have finished 7 semesters of college (Fall 2014 - Fall 2017).
Even though I feel burnt out and scared at the moment, I genuinely want to complete my degree; therefore, I would like to know how hard it is to resume my degree, after taking some leave in which I can regain some motivation and confidence.
NJIT and Temple are a couple of schools which are reasonable for me to apply to, based on my current stats and their transfer student policies (NJIT requires 33 credits of upper-level courses to be completed over there; Temple requires 45 of the final credits to be completed over there; both schools require a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 to be considered, my cumulative GPA is 2.8; both colleges state there is no limit to the number of credits they accept).
If you need a break, take a break.
I say this because if you are not motivated to go, and are burnt out, no amount of forcing yourself to stay will be helpful to you in the future. Your grades may tank. Electrical engineering is an extremely tough and competitive major. If you don’t get a decent GPA, it will be very tough to find a job so you must be at your best in this major.
Know this: it may be difficult and competitive to return, depending on the school and how many units you need to transfer. Transfer students receive little to any funding, so if you need financial aid to return it will be tough, you will be paying fees on your own.
When you decide to return, you may need to go to your local CC first, to get any necessary coursework completed for transfer, but it is overall, possible.
Is it possible to get an AA or AS to denote what you have accomplished so far? That might give you better job prospects during your break. Or is it possible to get a co-op or internship? That may be all the break you need. Some students do these for an entire year.
