If you do not have work study, how hard is it to find a job?

Dining hall and other undersireable jobs are plentiful. Comfortable non-work study jobs that do not require a special skill is rare.

My D worked for the phone bank this semester. It is comfortable, very well paid ($10.00 an hour with a bonues at the end of the year if you work all your shifts) and they provide training. I think there was a requirement that one worked at least 30-40 hours per month (??) or something like that.

Next year she will probably return to the phone bank and will also work at the Academic Resource Center (ARC) as a tutor. Tutoring is another well-paying job, but you have to apply to tutor a specific subject/course and of course, it depends on your grades.

There’s also plenty of jobs off-campus. Parents in the area are usually looking for babysitters and tutors for their kids.

I’d stay away from tutoring if you’re after the $$. Hours are extremely unpredictable, and time spent preparing for the session and traveling to and from the student is not worth the measly $10 you get paid.

I have friends who are getting paid $15+/hr babysitting though. That may be worth looking into if you have the personality for it.
