how hard is it to get an internship

i am a rising sophomore electrical engineering major. I would like to get an internship next summer. I was wondering how often sophomore get internships because i know that companies are mostly looking for juniors? Also what do other people put on their resumes. I have nothing to put on mine? It is completely empty except for some meaningless high school summer jobs. I have done nothing that pertains to electrical engineering. What are somethings that i can do to put on my resume that will help me land an interview?

What skills can you market (i.e. what software do you know? what can you program in? can you design circuits?)? Learning skills is important.

i know a little c++ but thats it. I have only finished my first year so i haven’t learned much. By next summer i will have learned everything a normal sophomore electrical engineering major would know

My advice would be to find extracurriculars and projects on campus and then list those under “Work and Professional Experience” and leave off pointless high school summer jobs.

As far as finding internships goes, you’ll have an easier time if you’re willing to take software engineering jobs, as they are much more plentiful than real engineering jobs. At least, this is what I have seen at every school I have attended.

My suggestion would be to email some professors and ask if you could work in their lab. Also, you should take a design or project class. That’s what I am doing and I am hoping to get an internship next summer.

Would joining the Engineering club count as an internship?
They build and design mechanical systems. All engineering students can join(mech, Elec, civil, etc…)
Yes or no?

An internship is basically on-the-job hands-on experience, so a club wouldn’t be considered an internship. On a r

what exactly do i do in a research position? how time consuming is it? also are there any projects i can do by myself that i can add onto my resume?
