My son is considering TCNJ as a mathematics major with computer science and Chinese minors. How hard is it to get the classes a student needs to satisfy major/minor requirements? Can students usually get the classes they want or do they have to go with whatever is available? Is registration handled by lottery or some other way? Thanks!
I think what happens is you get an “enrollment appointment” in PAWS and that is probably prioritized by how many credits you have.
I know in Biology for example, they hold the spring versions of certain courses for Bio majors only but then the fall courses are open to all.
If you enroll in TCNJ, have him sign up for courses as soon as he can…he can always try to change them around later.
My daughter generally didn’t have any issues signing up for courses, except some of the Pre-med courses (she was a Psych major + premed). If you go with the “normal” curriculum for you major I don’t think people had problems.

@bopper I was just accepted as a Public Health major at TCNJ, as a premed. Can you elaborate as to what you meant by your daughter having difficulty signing up for premed courses as a psych major? The only thing making me doubt coming to TCNJ is being able to take premed classes, and how the difficulty is as compared to other colleges. I feel like it might be harder to get A’s and a 4.0 GPA than it would at other schools. Anything you can tell me regarding these 2 questions would be awesome!
@bigman1441 I answered this on http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/college-new-jersey/2134214-how-feasible-is-a-3-8-gpa-for-a-prospective-premed-public-health-major.html#latest
The only time she had trouble was
-
When she was figuring out what classes to sign up for the first time, she waited late into the enrollment period and then some classes were full.

She was trying to take a certain Bio course in the spring, but that was reserved for Bio major. But she was able to sign up for it in the fall.
