As with most colleges, classes fill up quickly and it can be difficult to get a class you need. When you go in on the first day of class usually the classroom is PACKED with people who want to get in.

In my experience major is a small factor in how full the classes get because there are many people who are going to take classes just because they need classes. My first quarter I ended up taking two classes that had absolutely nothing to do with my major just so I could have classes. (keep in mind I was a transfer student, and it only by the grace of the adviser to my major was I able to get any classes that related to my major).

The best thing to do is to register the minute your registration period opens up.

If a class you need is full my best advice would be to add yourself to the wait list, or e-mail the professor.

Sadly this is a main problem for ALL of the UCs. I’m sure it gets better once you’re a sophomore or higher but freshman have it hard. I myself have difficulty getting the classes I want, (I’m a freshman with barely any units coming in). It really comes down to what your standing is. If you come in with alot of units from AP tests for CC classes, then you’ll have earlier registration times and you’ll have a better chance getting the classes you want. If you come in with barely any units, then you’ll have a pretty tough time. Even though I do have difficulty, I still get the classes I want by stalking GOLD (this is the website that you goto to register classes) until a spot opens up, and they usually do. Unless you are in the honors program or you have alot of units coming in, then it will be difficult, however you will get the classes you want eventually by stalking GOLD or crashing. And no your major doesn’t really matter.

I’m actually stalking gold right now trying to find an ess class. There was an open spot in first aid and CPR, but someone grabbed it before I could get it. XD
