I saw that 30% of Pitt students are OOS. Does this mean that they aren't too harsh on OOS admission?

Also are there many students from CA? CA is a pretty overrepresented state at most colleges; is Pitt an exception?

As an OOS student, do you think I can get in?

quick stats
SAT I 2290 (1560)
Asian, OOS (CA)
Class Rank: around top 15% at a decent school
SAT IIs: 800, 800, 760 (two histories and a science)
average/decent ECs.

2290 & 1560 SATs and you’re only in the top 15% of your class? I’d say your school is either VERY “decent” or your GPA is much lower than your SATs would indicate.

^^ Small school of around 125 students in my year which means that I’m beat out by around 15 ppl. School doesn’t rank, but you kinda know about where you stand.

Also, I just realized that I asked if “I can get in”. I meant, can I consider this a safety even though I’m OOS? Also, I’m interested in majoring in philosophy; would that make a difference in admission?

Your definitely in. Are you applying for a special program? cuz I love Pitt but It’s definitely not worth flying coast to coast especially when you have the UC’s.

I want to go to the East Coast for college and while I would probably choose Cal or LA over U Pitt, I consider U Pitt on equal standing as the middle UCs.

I’m also using it as a safety b/c they have rolling admissions which is really awesome.

Their philosophy program is pretty amazing at the graduate level and I’m hoping that will rub off a bit on the undergraduate level.

I agree. In with honors and full tuition scholarship. I got that with slightly lower stats than yours. Consider applying to one of the graduate school guarantees if you are interested.
