how hard is it to get in out of state?

i have a 3.5 gpa. Im taking the SATs on saturday for the first time and i was wondering if my gpa is solid enough to maintain a solid/decent SAT score and ultimately get in. I also have extracurriculars such as varsity sports and many community service hours if that helps.

All that Clemson really cares about is GPA and SAT/ACT. Just try to keep your GPA around 3.5 and produce an SAT 1200+ and your golden. Any clubs, extracurricular, sports, etc really mean little to nothing if you don’t have the scores they are looking for.

im out of state and i got in with a 3.54 unweighted gpa and a 1220 sat and had literally NO extracurriculars, i dont think those are looked at very much at all because my stats werent really above average so i thought maybe i shouldve had some ec’s to help put me above other applicants but i got in no problem with no ec’s not waitlisted or anything

thanks…is that how it is with most state schools…all grades but they dont care much about ec’s?

that is correct

I think it has more to do with the applicant pool. More prestigious schools have a higher concentration of students with high grades/scores, while other schools can distinguish the ‘better’ students through just grades/scores.

Is there a certain % they take in state vs OOS like UNC or do they let the applicant pool determise the ratio

Clemson tries to have about 30% of the freshmen class be OOS students
