What kind of GPA (weighted) and SAT score will make it hard to get into any decent colleges?
I feel like anything above a 3.0 and 1800 SAT and you're not SCREWED in life right? Let's assume no other extracurricular activities.

I'm stressed out because i'm in my sophomore year and my first semester GPA sucks. (3.7 weighted) My practice SAT scores aren't that great (only about 1900 right now) and I only have a few extra curricular activities. I feeling like I'm going to be screwed in life cause I'm an Asian male.. all that pressure. So can someone tell me how bad someone has to actually do in school to actually be screwed?

Depends on your definition of decent.
I mean, even someone who graduates from community college or trade school will get a job and earn a living.

^True, but the Asian definition of decent differs from that of other races.
My grandpa literally sat me down today and made me promise to be a doctor when I’m older. -_- smh.

Most people who go to top colleges don’t end being doctors or making as much money as doctors (mostly because they don’t want to), and you can certainly be a doctor without going to the Ivy League. Presumably there are less selective medical schools - the random doctors in my small town probably went to comparatively crappy medical schools but they’re still doctors and they make more money than the average person.

How bad will you have to screw up in school to be not be able to make a decent living. less than $50,000 in California? I just keep imagining myself homeless and not having enough to eat whenever i see my crappy GPA…Nothing against homeless people. My sympathy is with them.

I really don’t know what causes homelessness (other than your parents being homeless before you), but your high school GPA probably doesn’t have anything to do with it.

Define “decent”. I know of some very pretentious people that would barely call UCLA decent, while some others would think of Louisiana Tech as a very decent school. It’s all relative.

I’m not Asian, so I really don’t get the whole pressure cooker thing (my disclaimer) but even though you may not be Harvard material, that doesn’t mean you’re going to be homeless. OK, your parents may be mad, or you might feel like you failed by not getting a perfect 4.0, but I promise you that you WILL NOT BE HOMELESS BECAUSE OF HAVING A FREAKING 3.7. I promise. Maybe that’s not an on-par GPA for an Asian kid, but that is a good GPA and won’t make you homeless.

Besides, homelessness doesn’t really occur from bad GPAs. Drugs, down on their luck folks who lost their job, etc.

To answer you’re question: Read this. I’ll have you know, my mom dropped out of college and is now making around $56,000, no degree just a diploma. She would be making more if it weren’t for all these sick days. But of course she doesn’t like working this but she have to. Now think $56,000?? The worse you could do is drop out. Even then you’re not doomed the moment you drop out.

Topic: Purdue is like top school but not high enough to be that selective. You can clearly get in with those stats. Engineering is a bit more challenging. If you’re talking Ivies then you’re looking at a higher GPA and test scores…

It could be on a 6.0 scale, too. Anyways, if you only worry about grades and money, you’re going to be one empty shell of a person later in life.

Happiness > Financial success

I should also mention that an electrician, trained in trade school, would probably make over 50k a year in California. So… a 3.7 GPA is really not a big deal.

Decent school…Well, most schools that aren’t for-profit colleges are decent…And there’s a minuscule chance that with average GPA and test scores, you won’t get into at least one decent school…
