How hard is it to get into art?

Hello! I am looking into transferring to UC Santa Cruz from a CCC, and so far, I'm liking what I'm hearing/reading (though I've yet to actually visit the campus and see for myself).

My primary major is computer science, which is what I'm putting on my application, but I really want to double major in art (since sadly, there is no art minor here). Is the competition tough regarding the portfolio review?

In addition, I only recently realized that I wanted to pursue art, so I don't have any of the prereqs completed for the major. If I can somehow try to get them done by this summer, am I allowed to try for the portfolio review next year?

Thanks in advance!! ^__^

To the extent of my knowledge you have to do a pre-art lower division major and then you can be accepted to the art major.

It’s one of the most impacted departments here so being a transfer and having no pre reqs for it you might have to take an extra year to finish it provided you can get the classes you need because from what I’ve heard the art classes go like hot cakes.

Contact the Art department for more empirical information, if you have any more questions feel free to ask!

Thanks so much! :D

Do you have any idea how competitive the portfolio review is?

Sorry, I wouldn’t be able to tell you as I don’t know anything about it.
