How hard is it to get into Barrett?

I have a 3.2uw gpa, scored 2170 on the SAT (1450m+cr), and have no ECs besides working for the past 6 months. I’m a National Hispanic Finalist, if that affects my admission at all (it’s one of the questions on the application).
Do I have any chance? If I do, I know that means I’ll probably have to write a killer essay.

Thank you!

I think national scholars are automatic admits into the honors college... i think

ah that'd be amazing!
I know I'm an auto admit to the one at UofA but I'm not too sure about ASU.

My DD is also Hispanic Scholar - Congratulations to you! Yes, as Hopefully stated above, National Scholars are automatic Barrett students. We went to a information session/dinner with the Dean of Barretts here in Texas recently and he said you just have to apply. It sounds like a great opportunity for you guys - ASU and BHC have a lot to offer you. In my opinion, it seems to be a better deal than U of A.

Once again, congratulations and best of luck in your decision-making......

Yeah, you're in! Dean Jacobs basically told me that if you have NM or Nat'l Hispanic, it's like a "gold star" on the top of your application, and you're basically automatically in. Congrats!

I heard this confirmed by Dean Jacobs also. And he particularly mentioned two important things: you can apply even if you think the deadline has passed, and you don't have to torture yourself on the essay; my son used one of his common app essays, and it was good enough even though it didn't precisely fit the prompt.

BTW, if you have a chance to meet with Dean Jacobs and hear his pitch, definitely go. He does an impressive job explaining the school, and helping you see what it would be like to be a Barrett student.
