How hard is it to get into Boston University?

I applied for the college of engineering at BU. I’m involved in various EC’s (UNICEF, MHS, NHS, Red Cross, Math Tutoring) and am the VP of UNICEF. Also I immigrated to the United States after freshman year and that’s what my personal statement is about. My Weighted GPA is 4.18 (mostly A’s). Do I have a chance?

I looked at my kids Naviance. Every single kid applying with weighted GPA above 4.0 and SAT above 1400 was accepted (about 14 over the past 3 years). Many with lesser stats but there were also rejections too below 4.0W/1400.

This is applying out of a good private high school, very highly rated in a large state, but not elite at the national level.

Hope that helps!

Oh I forgot to mention I have a 1370 SAT and I come from a public school. Will that hurt my chances?

@yibrahim02 Can you give us either unweighted GPA or a count of how many A’s and how many B’s you have? Weighted GPA is calculated very differently at different schools.

Are you are US permanent resident or citizen?

Are you okay with being full pay?

Your weighted GPA and ECs do look good to me. I am not sure how much more competitive engineering is compared to other majors. The students that I know who got into BU had similar or very slightly lower weighted GPA, but they weren’t applying to engineering and I don’t know if their weighted GPA was computed the same way that yours is calculated. They decided to go elsewhere which was a great relief to their parents given BU would have cost them about $70,000 per year.

Coming from a public school should not hurt you. Your SAT is close to average for BU, but again engineering might be more competitive.

My wighted GPA would be 3.98 or something close to that. I am a permanent resident. I heard that BU has good financial aid so I hope I can survive with no debt?

@yibrahim02 make sure you fill out the FAFSA and the CSS profile. BU uses these forms along with all your other information to determine your financial aid and scholarships if accepted. They do offer lots of grant aid to students they really want. MY D was accepted to BU ED class of 2021 with a very generous aid package.she had excellent stats. Not everyone excepted gets a good financial aid package so, if this is your no 1 school make sure to talk to your parents about how you will pay the high cost of attendance at BU. Even with a good package you could still be paying close to $25,000 or morre.

BU is a fantastic school! I hope you get accepted and are able to attend.
