How hard is it to get into Cal Poly?

What is the degree of difficulty in gaining admission to Cal Poly Slo? I’ve heard a lot of people say it’s very difficult to get in to, but I can’t help but think that it is a Cal State, so I ask myself, “How hard can it really be?”.

If I go to Cal Poly, I will be transferring from Community College. I would be a business major, and I understand their business program is impacted.

So what kind of SAT score and GPA will I need to get in as a transfer student?

And will ECs like internships help that much? I’ve heard Cal Poly doesn’t really consider your ECs.

Every major at cal poly is impacted. Some, such as liberal arts are easy to get into, while engineering, psychology, and business are much more difficult.

Well, what kind of stats do you need to get in as a business major? That's what I'm asking.

The difficulty of getting into cal poly is not like that of getting into Cal or top elite univeristy. Well..maybe except for arch

should have the numbers you're looking for. But these are for fall 06
The univerisity said that rejections for this year were at a record high. There are also 2 threads here where accepted and rejected posted their stats... I think i remember a few who had over a 4-0 and still rejected from biz/pysch

but I thought they disregard SAT and HS gpa when you transfer?

<<but i="" thought="" they="" disregard="" sat="" and="" hs="" gpa="" when="" you="" transfer?="">></but>

I knew they disregarded your HS GPA, but I thought you could still take the SAT when you were in community college and that it was mandatory? Is this not the case?

I transferred into the Orfalea College of Business from a community college. Your high school stats and SAT scores do not matter... that's the whole point of community colleges.

If you think it's easy to transfer in as a business major here, good luck. I had a cum laude-level GPA when I applied and was rejected for the term I originally had selected (Fall '06). They offered me Summer '06 admission instead and I gladly accepted.

You need good grades for sure... but alot depends on what you want to major in. Forinstance Ag Business is much easier to get into than Business school. I know people who got into UCSB but turned down @ Cal Poly. And I have a friend who didn't get in with a 4pt and another who did with a 3.2. No rhyme or reason at that place.

Honestly I think it depends on your Major as stated above. Although many people see Cal Poly as a state college, it is the most competitive to get into. If you were to compare it to a UC admittance rate it would rank between UCSB/UCSD and UCLA/UCB.

The average GPA admitted for transfer students is 3.4, but if I wanted to get in as a business major, what should my minimum GPA be in order to have a good chance of getting in?

One of my buddies went to SBCC and then went to Cal Poly. I think his GPA was pretty high. In the 3.6-3.8 range. However, I do not know the average for transfers.

<a href="http://calpolynews.calpoly.edu/quickfacts.html%5B/url%5D">http://calpolynews.calpoly.edu/quickfacts.html</a></p>

Well, it looks like the average transfer GPA is quite low at 3.36...

I would assume the business average to be in the 3.4-3.5 range.

I applied for Fall '07 Business Admin and was given admission to Summer '07 instead.

I had a 3.6 avg gpa, a handful of hours per week for work, a tiny amount of hours per week for community service, and my work experience was major-related (they ask this).

Admissions told me that only 36 out of 756 transfer Business applicants got directly into Fall and that there were only 150 spots for the Summer term. Those 150 spots for the Summer were for all applicants (frosh, transfer, etc).

It 'aint easy bro.

My Chances?
3.7 W Gpa
0ver 650 Hours Of Community Service Hours (2005-present)
Sat I- 1700
President Of Interact Club
Treaseurer Of Best Buddies Club
Honor Role.....etc........
My Chances For Ucr,uci,ucsc,ucsb,ucdavis,ucsd,ucmerced..usc?
Thanks

But it's a crap shoot. I know people who got in with a 3.3 and others turned away with a 3.9. Depends entirely on the major you choose.

Ucr,uci,ucsc,ucsb,ucdavis,ucsd,ucmerced..usc

UCR: Safety
UCI: reach
UCSC: safe match
UCSB: reach
UCD: reach
UCSD: reach
Merced: safety
USC: reach

SAT is too low, get it up ato 1800+ and you'll have a much better shot at the mid tier UC's.

im not sure about ucsd and usc
i got rejected from usc with 4.1 gpa and 1900 sat
n my friend got rejected from sd with 4.2 gpa and 1930 sat

My friend got into Cal Poly SLO for Architecture this year with a 2.67 and a 1450 SAT. Who knows.

i cant really say. I mean Cal poly does have a low acceptance rate and all, but aside from architecture, i dont think it is too competetive.

My brother got in with a 3.5w and a 2010 sat (which SAT wise is obviously higher than their average).

A kid in my chemistry class got into engineering with a 3.65w and an 1700 sat
(700m, 500cr,500w)

^Which engineering program? ^

How is the competitiveness for Biology with a weighted GPA of 3.59, ACT 21, SAT 1600
