21 ACT is going to be a huge problem. Even for the liberal arts major, it is substantially higher than that.

Avg ACT for the overall university is 29.

For Sci Avg was 3.97/29 ACT/1301 out of 1600 SAT

The Business Admin major at Cal Poly is VERY selective. Admission for transfer students in Fall 2012 was 18%. You really need to have at least a 3.7 to be given consideration. Although, the admissions process is much more holistic than the other CSU’s, more on par with the UC admissions process.

As far as the campus in general, it is the most selective CSU and doesn’t carry the typical CSU “mediocrity” stigma. I know quite a few people who have chosen SLO over the more “elite” UC’s. One of my friends goes to Berkeley, and her sister goes to SLO - she wishes she had picked SLO instead.

A more accurate delineation between the CSU and UC systems is that they are two different philosophies - it’s not that one system is “better” than the other. The UC’s are primarily research-oriented, which is great for someone majoring in a highly academic field. The CSU’s on the other hand are focused on practical application, which I submit makes MUCH more sense for a Business major.

Hence people often choose SLO over the UC’s.
