How hard is it to get into competitive majors like Pysch?

I understand that majors like psychology, international studies and social welfare are extremely competitive (like those in engineering & business). Does anyone know what's the chance of not getting into the major you apply for?

P.S. Sorry guys just realized I spelt Psych wrongly in the title, wth. Sorry. Can't seem to change it.

The chance depends on which major you are applying for, how many other people are applying, what your gpa is, how many classes you’ve taken in preparation for your major, how many slots they have open, etc etc

Yeah, you can email the department advisers for statistics regarding getting in. And some may have those statistics posted on the department website.

There may already be some DAs on these… I’m already listed as in my International Studies/European Studies major, and I’ll be an incoming freshman this fall.

European Studies is an open admission major that can be declared at anytime by a student in good standing. It is not considered a ‘competitive’ major. So that is most likely why it is already listed on your transcript :D

There is no direct admit for psychology.

Info on admissions:
[University of Washington Psychology Department](http://web.psych.washington.edu/psych.php#p=46)

“While the specific GPA cutoff may vary from quarter to quarter, a “competitive” cumulative psychology GPA is generally at or above a 3.20 (GPA is for Psych 101, 202 and 209).”

Hope that gives a bit of insight for psych!x

Thanks guys. Speedsolver, I’ve read through that page already, but I was kind of looking for more of a statistic, e.g. how many people apply and how many actually get accepted…so perhaps better to email the dpmt advisers for this, like uwstudent suggested. Thanks though!
