How hard is it to get into desired housing?

I recently got accepted into the faculty of arts for the fall 2017 term, and I plan on attending and living on campus. I was wondering how difficult it would be for me to secure a single room in one of the hotel style residences, specifically La Citadelle. Any help would be much appreciated

I had the same question… Is it first come first serve? Because before my plan was to wait to see where else I get in to accept/decline their offer, but if I have a better chance in getting into a dorm I like if I accept their offer now, then I might consider doing so.

It’s a lottery. But when we talked to McGill Housing rep this December she said there’s a pretty good chance they accommodate your first 3 choices…

Most people get one of their three top choices! I’m currently a first year and I got my top choice rez (and second choice room). Depends on how you rank your dorm style. You can rank by either single/double room in each rez or just choose rez (by putting both single and double ranks of the rez at top).

I do know quite a few people who didn’t get their top choice (or actually got their bottom one), but most of my friends that I’ve met so far all wanted (and got in their top pick).

Even if you don’t get what you expected, you can change rezes after the first two weeks of living (if you honestly really still don’t like it by that point).

Also! If you have a major/minor scholarship, you’re guaranteed one of your top three choices for sure.

Hope this helps!
