I'm looking into Fordham for next year, at either the Rose Hill or Lincoln Center campus. (So far I really like both). I was wondering how competetive and selective Fordham is. I only have a 3.0 GPA (cringe) and I know their average is substantially higher than that, but I have extensive extra-curriculars, volunteer work, and high verbal/writing test scores (math is not very good-it's where my grades have always been relatively low and brought down my GPA). Only a couple honors/AP classes. Is there a chance of getting into a good school like Fordham? (I know that's almost impossible to answer) Anywhere you would recommend that's similar?
Thanks

i think u have a decent chance....r u a urm?

sorry...urm? haven't really posted here so I'm not sure what that means...

Probably irrelevent, but I'm a junior this year.

under represented minority

ahh... no
isn't fordham looking to diversify though... maybe that would be a good thing

being an urm is almost always a plus..

will being a urm help boost ur financial aid or scholarships?

Some schools will give you minority scholarships.

k123l - You'll probably need great SAT scores or some rediculous essays/recommendations that will make you stand out.

My d was admitted to Fordham with a 30 ACT/4.0 weighted, hard courses (she's also not good in math),well-rounded in music/athletics, some extra-curriculum but not alot. Those stats are not great for her school; it's a good school where competition is fierce (esp because so many people apply to the same NE schools.) I assume her essays were ok and so were her teacher recs. Two of her friends weren't accepted: WM 3.47 GPA and WF 3.9 GPA with both 1750-1800 SATs. Because we had no hooks and couldn't bring any diversity (location or otherwise), we tried to make as many open houses, tours, etc. as we could to show interest. (One of her friends with 4.6 GPA and high SAT? thought she was going to get a big scholarship to Boston U: she was denied. They didn't even make a campus visit!) Keep doing to best you can, take high level courses (they don't have to be in math), and let them know you want to go there. Good luck

thanks for the replies and advice! im visiting soon (both campuses, i believe) and will definately try to come up with as many 'hooks' as possible. and start going through that rediculously heavy sat prep book.

overall acceptance rate was 45% for this admissions season

I got into LC with a 3.6 / 1200 (v+m) / Mucho ECs

My son has a 3.26 UW GPA, 3.47 W GPA, with SAT scores of 560CR/700M, lots of ECs (including being captain of a team that finished in the top 10 in California and president of his school's interact club, 300 hours public service, worked 15 hours/week), wrote a good essay (it got him in to 5 other great universities)--yet he was waitlisted for Fordham's business school.

So, I think you're going to need a lot of stuff to go with that 3.0 UW GPA to have any kind of chance at being accepted to Fordham.

FYI - Fordham Business is the toughest of the undergrad colleges to get admitted to - not counting the theater program, which is not really a college, but I think you know what I mean. =)
