Hey there, my UC GPA is well below average for berkeley but I have a plethora of technical and leadership activities that show passion and commitment. I know that Industrial Eng and Operations Research is not as hard to get into as other majors like EECS, but approximately how much easier is it to get into? Do a lot of people apply to that major and get rejected/accepted every year? Thanks!

ORMS! 10char

Haha I was talking specifically about the undergrad engineering program… do you have any idea about how hard it may be to get in/how many people apply there per year? I heard that its one of the “less popular” engineering majors.

I got in! I would imagine its as hard as any other engineering major.

Wait did you apply this year? I keep hearing that only about 50 people apply to that major per year. O.o

It seems like it would be less immediately difficult to get accepted to than the most popular majors. I imagine it’s just as tough a major as many, depending on what classes you take.

I’d imagine if you have the statistics they want, then you’re pretty likely to get in. If you don’t, then they may not take you EVEN if you’re a good candidate and their program isn’t the most competitive to get accepted to.

Essays: Really well written. Focused on how I tutored a blind student and a student with an amputated arm. My second statement talked about how I’ve lived in over 25 different places around the world since I was a little kid and how that’s culturally enhanced my character. Both my essays ended with the lesson/new insights that I gained through my experiences so hopefully that’ll count towards my strengths. Also in the additional comments section, I talked about how my programming experience demonstrates my passion and competency for engineering.

Yes, my GPA is really low. But do you guys think that I might be able to cut it just because of the strengths of the other parts in my app + the fact that there’s not that many other applicants to this major? thanks guys for your help.

Yeah, I got in this year. I was invited to apply for Regents, so I know that I got in :)

Good luck, I hope you hear good news on March 29th!

Thank you for the luck and congrats on getting in already! Can anyone tell me how many people apply/are in the major for the freshmen classes?
