For non-impacted majors that is, assuming one has all the pre-reqs and IGETC completed, with a competitive GPA of course (4.0), etc etc....I'm curious, as I am whittling down my schools list..thanks a bunch!

With a GPA like yours and a non competitive major, i’d say like a 60% chance.

hahaha, good chance, it just comes down to your essays and ecs

wow. I’ve heard that Cal was hard to get into, but I didn’t realize a 4.0, IGETC certified, applicant with their pre-reqs done would still only have a 60% shot. That’s insane!

I think 60% is a bit low for a non-impacted major. I’d say more like 80%. The overall admitted average is something like 3.6 at Berkeley, IIRC.

i doubt its 3.6 since a 3.75 is only 25th percentile.

i would say 80% is pretty accurate for someone with a 4.0

Well, that also depends, Are you coming from a CCC? That can either make you or break you.

* Are coming from a CCC? *

Yes, I’m from a CC down in Orange County…

No offense to any of the posters above but how can you seriously gauge a percentile. I know there are transfer statistics and numerous data available but I don’t think you used it to devise a formula to measure the OP’s chances.

This is why I believe chance me threads are useless. No one of us are qualified enough to ascertain such a thing. It’s almost as if the numbers were plucked from thin air. Once again, this isn’t a personal vendetta against anyone. I just feel that it might be incorrect to give the OP numbers with no statical weight behind them.

Cal has an admission criteria of:
- 50% GPA
- 35% Essay
- 15% Resume

Assuming the OP has met eligibility (taken all the prerequisites, all major prep work) then we can logically infer that he/she has earned 50/50 points. We can then proceed down the list. Based on the OP’s numbers assumption if all were true then he would have a 100% shot of admission. However, we cannot account for the essays or the resume because the human factor is always involved. This is where the line becomes fuzzy and the secrets of the Adcoms come into effect.

And for those that say people with 4.0s get rejected, well most of them were most likely ineligible. Taking a look at Haas transfer last year, 1089 applicants were deemed ineligible.

Again, this is not meant to insult.

A Berkeley rep verified this with me. In order of priority for your application to even be considered:

Completion of all pre-requisite courses for your major + IGETC

GPA

Essay

ECs

According to the Berkeley rep, if you don’t complete #1, they don’t even LOOK at your #2, #3, or #4 (even if you’re a 4.0 with a phenomenal essay and tons of impressive ECs, your application still gets thrown out). If your #1 is complete, and your #2 is good (say, 3.5 for biology majors), #3 can only hurt you and #4 is irrelevant. If your #1 is complete, and your #2 is borderline, #3 and #4 can hurt or help you.

This is for junior transfers from CCCs.

By fall or spring?

That I don’t know about.
