How hard is it to get into NYU?

I was wondering how hard it really is. I know the admissions rate is lower but one must take into account the number of students that apply there. Assuming I have great essays, ECs w/ a focus and passion, and great teacher recs, do I stand a good change w/ a 28 ACT (retaking to bring it up) and a 2040 SAT: 630s Math and CR, 780 Writing/English---which is what I want to go into for a job---(also retaking). Haven't taken subject tests yet...

I really love NYU and need to know what I should aim for or if I'm okay where I'm at w/ test scores.

My gpa's great...IB Diploma student, all As and tons of A+s...ranked # 1 or 2...in fluctuates so Im not sure where I'm at after this last semester

Any thoughts?

It's not that hard to get in. Admission is pretty predictable and mostly stats (GPA, SAT, rank etc) driven. You'll be fine.

So are my test scores too low.....?

What school are you applying to?

College of Arts and Sciences..for english or jounalism

What is your GPA?

you applying regular or ED? I got in, same majors ED with a 2030 SAT (780, 750 SATII's) with a 3.7ish UW GPA, 4.27.

I'd say it looks good for you...gret if you apply ED (do you HAVE to send your ACT's? those are a tad low and your SAT's are strong)

I don't have to send in my ACT but i know I can bring it up....was really sick on test day and felt like i was gonna faint....

My gpa unweighted is around a 4.2 (b/c A+ at my school is a 4.33 so I don;t know how colleges would unweight my grades and my weighted gpa is exa ctly 4.541 (i just finished junior year fyi)

Well, you look pretty solid, especially for ED. Although your SAT score overall is good, (I got the same Writing score as you!) you may want to re-take it just so you can get a higher CR, especially if you're going into English. Also, keep in mind that on the 1600 scale (which, though I'm sure NYU will notice your Writing score, they still use), you only have about a 1260 (avg for CAS is about a 1340).

I'm not gonna apply ED cuz cost could be an issue in choosing a college...

EH...for some reason i suck at CR even though I devour about 2 books per day....i just get nervous and can't read super fast...ugh!

bump......

bump......

Anyone? any thoughts about test scores, chances, ways to improve them, etc?

bump......

I disagree that NYU admissions are "pretty predictable" and "stats-driven." I applied RD with 3.7/4.3, SAT 2200 (CR720 M700 W780), SAT2's 710 and 750, and I was waitlisted. I got in about a month ago, but still, I thought their decision was a little surprising.

shasheen: maybe they waitlisted you b/c you were kinda overqualified and they didnt want NYU to be your safety so to keep the yield up, they waitlisted you....

What school were you applying to?

College of Arts and Sciences, to study english and/or journalism

Oh, I was asking shasheen. I already asked you that on the first page lol.

lol...i was wondering why you asked again, but anwered anyways....I didn't mean to underestimate your intellect...hehe

So I guess i'm just wondering if you guys think i have a really good shot, okay shot, on a scale of 1-10 maybe..the way my stats are now assuming my ECs/recs/essays are great and all...or if I should try to bring any SAT and/or ACT scores up and aprox. how much. Thanks!
