How hard is it to get into Ross?

I was just admitted to Umich and am excited, but worried.

I am interested in business, but how hard is to get into Ross (as a umich student, not as a guaranteed admit)? What do they take into account? Only college grades? High school grades? ACT/SAT?

Also, what kind of GPA/scores are generally required?

Thank so much!!!

Only college grades. Typically, those with 3.7+ GPAs are strong candidates.

I have heard that it is cut throat - but at the same time i know kids who got in with a 3.0 from LSA with nothing special going for them. I think it depends heavily on the essays.

Ya essays are huge. My roommate freshman year had a 4.0 but didn’t get in because his essays were weak.

I think admissions started considering HS stuff in recent years, but I don’t know how much weight they put on it.

A couple of years ago one of my friends got in with a 2.7 freshman GPA.

how’d he pull that off?

well you also have to look at if a kid is coming from LSA, Honors, Engineering, Etc - So it’ll depend.

I think my chances are slim to none - i transfered to Umich from WMich’s B-school. I have a 3.8 and tons of Ec’s including volunteering, frats, internships and i run 2 businesses (that i started) over the summer, etc… but i think it is too cut throat, and the fact i am a soph. meaning i will have to take an extra year - idk how ross looks into that, if they respect the decision or not…

She was in LSA, not really strong in Calc and Econ classes (got Cs and Bs in those classes), but eventually managed to get in. So anything can still happen, work hard on your essays.

I was told Ross is University of Michigan- Ann Arbor hardest school to get accepted into.

I promise you, it’s easier to get into Ross than Harvard… (and several other schools). Whoever you heard that from is wrong!

im pretty sure what he meant was that, among michigan’s schools (lsa, engin, etc.), ross is the hardest to get into

I’m curious to see if the number of applicants for the current freshman class will drop because of the weak state of all the financial companies (though I think they’ll probably rebound within the next four to five years).

We actually recorded some gains this year HARRRR.

I’m really nervous about attending UMich if I don’t get into the pre-admit business program. I really love UMich because it has everything that I want in a college experience but I’m torn between UMich, BC, and NYU Stern because of the pre-admit thing.

This is my reasoning : UMich is cheaper than BC but I haven’t been guaranteed a spot in Ross yet. NYU Stern is a bit too close to home and I don’t like the campus but it’s an excellent business school. BC has a beautiful campus, good business program, but the diversity is lacking.

Do any of you have any takes on this?

all my engineering friends with 3.2+ got in. a sample of only 6 out of 6 students tho.

Ross is the hardest program to get in, but once you are in it’s easy to graduate.

harmonykiss, I am in the same shoes. GAHHHHH!!! I really want to go to Michigan, but if I don’t get into Ross, there’s no meaning for me, because I really need the business program. Should I just go to BC?

well… you don’t need the b-program.

I mean I’ve been wanting to study business so I want/need the bbs.

Same here, Karen!! It’s SUCH a tough decision.
If I am pre-admitted to Ross, I would go to UMich in a heartbeat but I’m scared of the risk associated with just going to UMich and not having a guaranteed spot. That’s the only reason I am probably choosing BC over UMich :(

Do you know if you can double major in the Ross School? I want to double major in a discipline in engineering and business (duh lol)

I got in for engineering and I plan to apply to ross once I’m there.

Oh and this is for anyone in my situation. Take a look:
