how hard is it to get into rsi

what is looked at… SAT…science fair???

From what I've heard, the emphasis is on scientific achievement. Many of the people accepted have already done some research at a lab, or done something else that the AdCom's view as scientifically creative. There's probably a million threads on the topic. CC's search won't let you search for RSI (too short of a word), but use Google and include "inurl:collegeconfidential.com" in your search string and you'll find a wealth of information.

Disclaimer: I didn't attend RSI so all my info is second hand from other people on CC

You have to be one of the top 100 (or whatever the number is) students in the country.

Science far? No, try child prodigy

hahaha
wait so research in a lab...for WashU and SLU and publications...do they count???
because I did papers on the effect of a lysine mutation on the structure of the ELL protien...that causes leukemia...among other toipics...

Wow.. if you've done that research and written the papers before your senior year, then you have a serious leg up on most other applicants. Thats all I can say - you'll get better advice/comments from RSI alums

i'm a sophmore..I will be a junior next year...
I am entering my project with Professor Eissneberg on the mutation of the ELL protien in science fair INTEL
hope it does well and i'll have a chance....

Westernmass, I am by far no child prodigy, but I still got into RSI. I think publications give a real edge. One student has 3 publications and that is what got him in. Personally, I was a Siemens Westinghouse Regional Finalist, and I think that helped significantly.

But yes, research in a lab is what counts, and mo123, I think you should continue doing what you're doing and apply next year. RSI is very selective, around 80 people get in out of 2400 applicants.

thanks!!!
so i would have a chance if i did more research???
because I have done research all summer through the STARS program

when are rsi applications due?

You just need to be one of the top who apply. The beauty is that most people don't have a clue what RSI is. It's still hard, but not nearly as hard as most people think.

"1,200 applications, selects a total of 110 applicants - 75 from the United States and 35 from abroad"

I think there are usually less than 110 people...This year there is 89 but actually nvm I forgot that Caltech is included next year.

yesssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss
wait if i get a 240 psat..b/c i got 230 this year without trying does that help???????

Of course.
