I was just wondering how hard it is to get accepted into the CS department at the U of I. Also how much does it usually cost for a CS student each year?

you can have a look at the threads in this forum, it seems UIUC’s engineering and CS programs are self-selective. So the acceptance rate maybe is 70%,which is almost the same as other majors. As for the cost, that depends on if u r a in-state, out-of-state, or international. And for the non-international, you can expect some scholarships if you did well enough. All the detail information, you can check the school’s webpage and there are detailed figures.

CS has ACT average of 32. If you have stellar GPA and have ACT of something close to 31, I’d say you have a decent chance.

put up ur stats and we can tell u from that

I have a 28 ACT and an pretty okay GPA. (I haven’t posted an “official” chance yet. I’m waiting… For what, I don’t know. :p)
I’m considering applying for Stats and Computer Science in LAS. I don’t think my chances to the CS/College of Engineering department look good. Thoughts? :)

well heres mine i was in same situation last year… i applied to stats and cs because my gpa wasnt extremely high and my act was a 27 so i knew i wasnt getting into engineering. and i got into stats and CS but only in april… so i can help u alot with this if u post more of ur info i guess.

btw when i went to orientation i told my counselor wat my plans were and she understood. the old cs website had requirements to transfer after first year… im taking the same classes as any cs major except maybe my las class.

Indianman, thanks! I’ll add more info soon. I just have to recollect everything.
What do you mean you got in April? Were you deferred?

Yeah, that’s what I’m planning to do too. Is transferring between departments difficult?

got facebook or something private. give me ur info its easier just to have a conversation instead of posting in this

actually if you could just write it in the forum, because i would like to know also.

It depends. If your above the minimum requirement, your chances are solid. If you can survive the brutal weed out courses during the first 2 years that all CS engineers have to take (physics 211, 212, calc 3, cs 225, etc), than your chances are solid. If you don’t, well, tough luck.
