How hard is it to get into the econ major?

So I was pretty much planning on trying to get into haas for my first couple years and assumed that econ would prove to be my "backup" in the very likely case that i didnt get in. Im alittle worried now that i see econ is also capped - which is making me wonder if i should steer myself in a better backup path or not...

With that in mind, how hard would you guys say it is to get into the econ major?

depends on how hard the profs in your pre-req classes grade, lol. econ only looks at your pre-req GPA, not your overall GPA. but the econ advisor said that if you get at least a 3.0 (so nothing below a B) in EVERY pre-req class, you should get into the program. that may not sound bad now, but some classes only give out B- and above to 50% of the class, so if you're average in that class, you're going to get a B- or C+ and hence greatly reduce your chances of getting into the econ major. the point to keep in mind here is that it's at least a B for EVERY pre-req class, not a B average overall in your pre-reqs.

thanks for that info, seems like im gonna have my work cut out for me

you guys have any ideas of good majors that i could dabble in if i end up getting rejected to econ and haas? hopefully ill be able to switch things up second semester if anything grasps me (it seems like calso is too damn early for me to figure out my major right now...)

PEIS: Political Economies of Industrial Societies is a good backup if you don't mind taking 4 semesters of foreign language. Many UGBA & Econ prereqs are also PEIS prereqs.

yeah that foriegn language thing does kinda bother me...the other major i was looking at, development studies, also requires some too. i tihnk im just gonna put PEIS down for now and see what pops up later on for me though
