How hard is it to get into these Summer programs?

Right now I am looking into summer programs for my sophomore to Junior summer. I am only a sophomore, so I can't apply to the big daddies like RSI and TASP for this summer, but I am looking to go to other great summer programs.

The three that I am looking to apply to are:

1) SSP: Summer Science Program (Caltech thing)
2) SSP(H): Harvard Summer College, Secondary School Program
3) Cornell Summer College'

Does anyone have any idea of how hard it is to get into each one, and how prestigous each one is? If things go well and I get into all three, what would be the best and most impressive to go to? (Each program would be Science and Math based, which is what I want to do)

heard it was pretty easy to get into the Harvard Summer program...if u have the $$ that is..

What happened here? How come this is the third post, but the second one cannot be seen?

Dunno. Heard the Harvard one isn't for you if all you want is a boost in college admissions. Cornell is the same.

SSP is probably the most "selective" of the ones there

What do you mean? Are they still good programs for a good education and stuff, even if they don't wow colleges?

SSP(H) is a great program if you want to get a feel for a college and experience the readler aspects of life. However, if you are looking for something that will help you for a science and math orientation look towards things like PROMYS. Harvard can only provide, at max, a Biology 101 type course.

I don't think Cornell is that hard to get into. I got in with good boards and GPA, but in my opinion my essays were not high quality. My friend who attended the same program last summer did not do well on his boards and is not a strong student and he got in.

Don't know about Caltech, the other 2 are easy to get into if you don't need a scholarship.

my classmate went to the Cornell one and she isn't close to a top-notch student. She's pretty much the average student at my school...2 AP classes, PSAT score around 85 percentile...maybe slightly above average writing skills...

She said that the cornell program was good, but no where near worth the several thousand dollars she paid

Alot of these programs (the college based one, not science or math based), you should only go if there is little to no pay involved. Scholarships.
