How Hard is it to get into UCI?

<p>Just wondering what you need to get into UCI (University of CA, Irvine).</p>

<p>Is there anything in specific they look for?</p>

<p>What can boost my chances?</p>

<p>Basic Formula:
High GPA and SATI/II scores (Most important)
Dedication and commitment to extracurricular activities (you do not need to have many)
Volunteering/Internships (try 100+ hours)
Leadership
Good personal statement</p>

<p>irvine is dominated by smartass asians that seems to bring up the average “requirements” to be accepted into uci. that’s just my theory. i was accepted by ucd and ucsb, but rejected by uci. bullcrap.</p>

<p>yeah i come from a difficult/copetitive school full of asians. so i know what u mean. </p>

<p>and are UCs inconsistent? like is it strange how sometimes really smart people dont get into UCI, but they get into places like UCB, UCSD, while people who “shouldn’t” have gotten in get in?</p>

It isn’t inconsistancy so much as it is each University of California campus is independant. The UC system establishes minimum eligibility standards that all campuses adhere to and a list of 14 admission factors (Comprehensive Review) that can be considered, but then each campus is free to decide how to weight the various factors. Each campus makes admission decisions without input from other campuses and there is no discussion between campuses about which applicants will be admitted ot rejected.</p>

<p>I’m not going to lie, but I have cousins who go to both UCI and UCB and trust me, the asians do make the requirement seem higher then it already is.</p>

<p>But just apply, you never know.</p>

<p>Im trying to write a really good essay so I have a good chance in standing out, but well see.</p>

<p>My sister was accepted to UCI for Fall 2010. She is Chinese, but her grades and test scores were average. So, basically, I’m saying UCI does not accept only “Smart-Ass Asians”. When I visited the UCI campus, I saw a lot of white people and not many asians (which surprised me). So don’t get caught up on statistics and just apply!</p>

<p>UCI is pretty competitive if you’re not from California… they seem to pick a lot of asians around the LA area. a lot of people from my school get accepted to UCI/UCSD/UCSB cause my high school is very asian based.</p>

<p>im In state, about 80% of my school is asian if that says anything lol.</p>
