I was having a look at UCLA’s stats for domestic students, and it looks like it is relatively easy to get into. However, like most places in the US, admissions for international students is a completely different story.
I would like to know what would be the chances of an international student with a 4.0 GPA and decent extracurriculars.
@jym626 Yup, I can afford it. However, I am considering places where I can get a scholarship. I mean, ~$300,000 is a lot of money no matter how rich you are.
According to their admission statistics on their website, students with a GPA higher than 3.9 have an acceptance rate of 50%!!! It just shows that the Californian applicant pool is relatively weak, thus it’s overall acceptance rate is ~17%
It should be easy for me right?
Plenty of people with perfect scores and solid GPAs get rejected. Keep in mind that the standards are higher for international students. Also, you might want to get your SAT score up.
I’ve got some decent extracurriculars. I am the founder of my country’s first baseball league(baseball in my country is unheard of). I’m working on to promote baseball to high school students around my country so they can join my small league. I believe this is pretty unique(How many students have you heard of starting their country’s first sports league and completely managing it themselves?). I’m looking towards getting some sponsors in my country but my league is not officially registered yet with the ministries yet.
My other EC’s are just the usual stuff high schoolers do.
I’m also looking towards starting a business, but the dudes on CC have discouraged me from doing it.
BTW, I’m going for engineering, which should be the most difficult college to enter at UCLA.
@Gumbymom
Ahhh Yes! umm…I’ve been trying to stay away from my test scores but here you go: 1840
Yup, I know…
But this was a couple years back and I am planning to do it again(new one) in autumn, and score around 1450/1600. I might as well go for the ACT as their emphasis on ‘tricky english’ is less(international students suck at english).
Safeties: UAlabama, Case Western Reserve, Boston University
Total: 27
USA: 21
UK: 5
Singapore: 1
These are what I have in mind. But because I have about 4 months left, this list is likely to be modified. I might reduce this list down to 15 to 20 Uni’s
I know I haven’t painted you guys about my whole profile…but I assure you, I am an amazing applicant.
BTW, I’m an Cambridge A-level applicant so I have UK on my mind too
OP-
Your list is way off the mark. Several of the schools you think are “midreaches” or “matches” are not.
You say you have a 4.0 (assume that is unweighted). Ok. That is one data point. Many of the colleges on your list look at more than your GPA. But they do look at your SAT.
Be prepared to be a full pay at many of the schools you hope to get into.
I agree with @jym626 in that until you have solid test scores, many of your matches/mid reaches are not realistic. You need to have top stats as an International applicant for many of these schools and so far what you have posted does not reflect that you are a top applicant other than with your GPA.
With your current SAT score, I would move Cornell, JHU, Penn, Berkeley, UCLA, Rice Georgetown, and USC to,your REACH list. Which makes your list abundantly top heavy.
GA Tech would be a match…but not a guaranteed match.
Same with Case Western.
You will likely get accepted to Alabama, and BU as a full pay student.
I don’t know a thing about your international schools.
Your list is extremely top heavy and overly optimistic with the current SAT score you have.
In post 2, you say you can afford UCLA…where you would be full pay at over $60000 a year.
But elsewhere you wrote:
Make up your mind…can you afford college here…or not?
Also, keep in mind, your application will be reviewed with others from India. There are TONS of extremely well qualified applicants from your region. Acceptances to UCLA and USC will likely be in the single digits of applicants from your area. And they will be the tippy top cream of the crop all around.
