Hi. I got into UCLA and will be a freshman. People can only start the film major as transfer students or starting at junior year. meaning that sophomore year i apply. They only accept 30 students or so per year. What do students usually submit to get into film school? I have always been a musician and am doing a music major, but I am starting to get into film. I have done nothing with film though. I was hoping to start doing projects in college. I was planning to do a double major with physics, and probably am until I can make sure I can get into the film program because I want to do a job with storytelling (film, tv, music, writing, video games) and physics jobs don't sound interesting to me. but physics itself is very interesting. In the film industry, producing and composing sounds the most interesting to me.

It is hard in the sense that you are going up against creatives that are so damn good at what they’re doing. This is good and bad, for obvious reasons. I say continue that non film major whether it be at a community college or at ucla itself, regardless it’s 15ppl from inside and 15 transfer students. Your competing with great people no matter which way you go about it. You don’t need to be a film major to so film related things. Have something to fall back on but still take the classes you need to apply for the film undergrad. It’s not impossible to get in but you will need to put the time to get in. My GPA was average but I spent 2 months perfecting my application especially the extra materials they ask in regards to film. It is all on the ucla website, under the undergrad film page. Put the time in and it’s really easy to understand. At first looks like a different language, but it all makes sense. I was lucky enough to get into ucla and USC, but ask anyone and they’ll say I deserved it, disappeared for the past year. I still can’t believe I begin I the fall. It’s worth all the stressful sleepless nights. Put in the work my friend and don’t give them a reason to doubt you, and guess what? They won’t. Good luck!
