hi all
so how hard is it to get into University Of Florida for Mechanical engineering?
what are the required SAT or ACT scores? I couldn't find them on UF website.

Meh, it’s not that hard. Just be above average.

The thing with UF is that they’re unpredictable. An AP student with a 2150 could be rejected while a student with. 1890 is accepted. What you’d think they’d go for they do, but then sometimes they don’t.

^^^ I guess that’s based on your definition of average…

As a Freshman, you apply to the University, not the college, so your choice of major doesn’t directly impact your chances. As a transfer student, you do apply to the college and each college has it’s own requirements (including core classes and GPA).

Below is the freshman profile (2012)

[University of Florida - Admissions](Freshman - How To Apply - University of Florida)

Middle 50% of the Class

◾High School GPA of 4.0 - 4.4 (only 27.7% of the class had a GPA less than 4.0)
SAT of 1810-2080 (only 37% of the class had a score less than 1940)
ACT of 27 - 29

AS Niquii77 said, UF admissions is a bit unpredictable. They use a holistic admission process, about 50% is GPA/class rigor/Test and 50% are ECs/Leadership/Essay. UF also puts more weight behind GPA and class Rigor than test scores. All of these factors can lead to someone with a 1800 SAT score being selected over someone with a 2050. The worse your EC’s, the better your GPA/test scores need to be…

Finally, only about 4% of UF’s undergrads are OOS (6% international, and 90% in-state).

Extremely hard for out of state-rs. Its much easier to get into FSU.

@Gator

You’ll have a good shot with a 4.0+ GPA and 1900+ SAT.

[Why can?t I get into UF? | www.palmbeachpost.com](http://www.palmbeachpost.com/news/news/local-education/why-cant-i-get-into-uf/nSWJW/)

Do we know why the OOS admissions are so low? Is it harder to get in from OOS, or is it that so many more in-state students apply because tuition is lower, which makes the OOS numbers look bad?

Regarding general UF admission as a Freshman, though, UF has a less than 50% acceptance rate. I believe it was 43% in 2012. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to find any data from the College of Engineering regarding transfer admission numbers. They must keep it private.

I was surprised the OOS admissions where that low. Below is a thread bouncing around possible reasons. It’s likely a bunch of factors, not the least being the appeal to in-state students of low tuition and highly ranked (puplic) program.
